Florida's West Coast

My west coast of Florida starts at the Tamiami Trail west of Miami and follows the coast up to the panhandle. Although we haven't made it past Cedar Key as yet, we have found the most interesting areas of Florida along this coastline. Much of Old Florida still survives if you get off of the Interstate and follow the old state routes.

    The City of Anna Maria is located on the northern tip of Anna Maria Island which is a barrier island west of the Greater Sarasota/Bradenton area of Florida.  With a 35 mph island speed limit and miles of white-sandy beaches, this island as an authentic Old Florida, worry-free atmosphere.
    About twenty miles north of Tarpon Springs on the west coast of Florida is a historic fishing village named Aripeka.  Located in the middle of miles and miles of sea grass to the west of State Route 19 the small village is a reminder of the quiet Florida way of life of times gone by.
