Port St. Joe has historically been noted for the massive St. Joe Company paper mill that was established in 1936 and operated until 1998. It was dismantled in 2003 and all that is left is a vacant stretch of land and NO indication that it was ever there. So much for preserving your town’s history!! I guess the locals had had enough of the environmental issues over the sixty-year operation and were happy to see it go.
